Les Saisies, a ski resort located between Upper Savoy and Savoyn is the passage between the Beaufortain valley, also called « Tyrol Français », and the Val d’Arly. Les Saisies was created thanks to Erwin Eckl, who came to the village in 1935. A visionary, Mr Eckl said: “here, on these pastures of the Col des Saisies, on these mountains, it is unavoidable, one day or anothern men will build a resort where life will be good!”. In between 1150m and 2000m, the Les Saisies ski resort is in the Espace Diamant, which is over 185km of marked pistes. Facing the Mont Blanc, Les Saisies was implanted on the south mountainside of the mountain pass and benefits from excellent snow conditions and brilliant sun, which will satisfy any holidaymaker. In the heart of a protected area, the Olympic resort was boosted thanks to the XVIth Winter Olympics of Albertville in 1992, during which the resort hosted the cross country and biathlon events. Les Saisies would not be what it is today without Franck Piccard, who grew up there and who was a local Olympic champion who won the Gold, Silver and Bronze medals during the Super Giant and downhill events at the Calgary Olympics in 1988 and Albertville in 1992. Les Saisies is first and foremost the most beautiful cross country ski domain in the Alps. Many out of the ordinary sports activities are offered by the resort: nocturnal skidoo, ice karting, helicopter and plane initiations around the Mont Blanc, glacier skiing…
